For a bit of context, what is going to follow is a bit of rambling generated by sleepless nights studying for exams/doing homework, and my brain on autopilot. It is a general outline for a conceptual stage RTS game. I'm throwing it out here to see what you guys think, and to liven up the forums.

The Basics:
Start of with a small group of zombies, infect a small city stealthily, maybe have a few more conspicuous outbreaks in remote areas to draw any resistance away from the main infestation.  You could control the roam range and behaviour of zombies, for example, make them travel in groups to increase the chance of survival against resistance forces, or spread out to cause as many infections as possible, or make them attack stealthily, which would slow the rate of growth, but attract less resistance.

Once you've taken over a city, you can play on a larger scale, and send out parties of zombies to travel to other cities to infect them and expand your territory. You would have to decide whether to attack one city at a time and risk a more concentrated resistance, or start smaller outbreaks in more cities to try keeping the resistance occupied on too many fronts to do significant damage.

The basic goal would be to infect as many people as possible

The Setting/Game Timeline:

You would start off in one section of a small city as mentioned, and progress through various neighbourhoods, avoiding resistance forces and infecting people as you went. Resistance forces would attack and destroy your zombies if you weren't stealthy enough or strong enough. Once you had infected the entire city and destroyed the resistance forces, you would be able to send parties of zombies to other cities on a world map. These zombies might encounter military resistance on their way, and if they do, you may have to deal with more resistance forces invading your cities. You would be able to switch to a city view to control the zombies in an individual city, or a world view to check on how your other cities were doing and send more zombies to infect other cities or cause the military to be drawn away from your cities.

Once you had infected all the cities on the map, you would win the game. For quick games, you might just play to infect only one city.

So, what do people think, other than that I should really get more sleep?  Smiley

I like the progression from small to large scale control, and I like that you can "zoom in" later in the game.  What are your intentions with regards to proceeding?

Probably if I find a good language to start with, and find I have some free time, I'll consider starting it, with the expectation that it won't turn out quite as good as I'm visualizing it, due to not having a dedicated team of graphics designers  Tongue

Also, the lack of AI experience I have could pose a problem.

Graphics are always a problem.  For some reason those arrogant artists won't give out their hard work for free!  Tongue

I have some friends who may be able to do graphics...but it depends if it's going to be vector art, 3d, or pixel.
