I remember that DELTA once suggested an idea for implementing cutscenes. (yes, I can remember back that far  Tongue) I was recently playing around with my 3D rendering engine, and found that it it can create avi animations. It's mainly for landscapes and such , but could be used for other things in a pinch, provided they can be made with primitives. (spheres, cubes, cones, etc) People aren't really an option, unless you want naked genderless people that are frozen.

Now, if Jonny was willing to implement something that could display avi files in the client, I'd be willing to create scenes for things like an introduction to the world, natural disasters, or whatever else is needed, provided I can do it within the above restrictions.

I'll post an example of what it could do in a while.

Can you model, do we have voice actors, do we have skinners!?

It sounds good, the only problem is I think that seeing an awesome 3D movie then going back to plain old 2D might bum some people out.

Remember that I can't make animations with people, so voice acting isn't really an issue. If it is, get a microphone, download the latest version of audacity, and go to town. As for skinners, I can always apply different materials to whatever surfaces there are.

Sorry for taking so long to upload this thing, I've had it going for about 4 hours on one site and 4 on youtube now, don't know why the upload is taking so long. Oh, and I realize the atmospheric quality is crap in the video, but that can be changed to almost anything needed.

AVI files shouldn't be a problem, as long as they don't make the client too large.  Smiley  I'm interested to see the example.

Hurrah, it finally uploaded! After only 6 hours, plus the 8 from the other sites...

Either way here it is! And an alternate link directly to the player.

It seems like it was a little jerky, was it because of the player or the way it was made?

Other than that it was pretty cool.

It's the camera path I was using. Large sweeping motions like that, especially with altitude changes and whatnot in between, can make it hard to get it both smoothly rotating and going where you want all at the same time. Also, for the sake of rendering speed, I cut the framerate down to 10 frames per second, a third of what it usually is.

Here, I've got one with better atmospherics. Yes, I realize the rotation is still jerky in places, but I'm hoping I'll get better at this sort of thing.
