First off we should decide what types of weapons we should use(we can work on names later).

I wanted to post this before I forgot, but spears are not used for SWINGING!!!!
I was playing my game, Knight Online(good game), and when using a spear their animation is swinging. Spears are for stabbing, thrusting,... SCEWERING!... but not swinging...

Polearms, however, ARE for swinging. Polearms are just a large rod with a scimitar like blade on the end...

Now, a list of weapons that are usually used in mmorpgs.

Sword duh.
Spear
Axe
Bow
Mace
Club
Polearm
Crossbow
Battle Fan (not too popular, but can work)
Claws (getting a martial arts theme going on lol)
Scythe
Whip

If you have any others that I missed, please add them. We'll decide which ones to use later.

I do think that a variety of weapons is much better. You won't see people walking around with the same weapon all the time. It may be more work, but I think it will be worth it. Same for armor.

Daggers too.

Anyhow, yes, a variety of weapons is good, and if there was some reason for using them, like some monsters have weaknesses against certain types, then it becomes even better.

Yes, I agree. For the people that want to start more than one character, it will never be linear gameplay. You'll have to go kill certain monsters that you wouldn't do with other weapons.

I like where this is going.  Smiley

Weapon types and weapon weaknesses would definitely be worth adding.  Get it all figured out and I'll do it.

Well, the way Runescape does it is with crush, stab and slash bonuses. For example, a dagger will have a decent stab bonus, a not very good slash bonus, and no crush bonus, whereas a battleaxe would have a decent crush and slash bonus but little or no stab bonus. Then armour has the defensive versions of those stats, which resists said stats. For example, a big, flat shield would be good against stab attacks, such as from arrows,  because it has more surface area to protect from them, but a slash attack, like from a battleaxe would hack right through it. A heavier, thicker shield would have less area to protect against stabbing attacks, but wouldn't be hacked through by the axe, so it's slash/crush stats would be better.

There also needs to be a weapon element, that way you can set  the weapon's element and there would be monster elements and your  weapons could do better depending on your weapons element against the monster's, I was thinking that there was a nuetral element for all weapons when you pick them up or buy them, but then you can get certain stones to forge them to have elements. Also maybe get a way to forge weapons to be a +1 or +2 etc.

But what should the elements be, and how many? We could go with the ancient Greek elements, earth, air, fire and water, or we could have alternate things like ice, poison, electricity, confusion etc, or we might have a combination of those. What do you guys think?

fire, grass, ground, lightning, water, air, psychic(basically it isn't strong or weak it is basically normal but a little stronger), and normal.

Weak/ Strong Graph:
-: weak
x: no effect
+: strong
=:normal
I will put two symbols after the element, the first is attacking the very first element, and the second is the very first element attacking the element listed.
Fire: Grass-+, Water+-, Ground==, Air+-,Lightning==
Grass: Fire+-,Water-+,Ground=+,Air+-,Lightning==

I'll post the rest later

Earth and nature are very similar.  I think we should stick to the 4 basic elements. (Earth, Fire, Water, Air/Wind)  If we have a lot of elements it will just confuse people.

We could also have some weapons with two elements.
